PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
ALOHA kākou. Since the Polynesian Cultural Center opened 60-plus years ago, thousands of employees have welcomed millions of visitors to this special place. We wouldn’t exist today without everyone’s kōkua.
To thank you in part and help honor all your efforts, a succession of people and volunteers on our historical team will continue to work closely with our webmaster team, to mine the vast treasure of archival materials the Center has accumulated — photos, videos, articles, interviews, and much more — starting before October 12, 1963.
They are “cherry-picking” nuggets from our past, and adding contemporary news and stories, making these precious memories more accessible on legacy.polynesia.com.
This is a long-term, ongoing project that we will continuously update. Meanwhile, enjoy Legacy now. Revisit the Center as often as you like, from anywhere in the world with access to the internet — not just by browsing, but also by interacting. Please send us here your own feedback, comments, pictures, and personal updates. Of course, we will moderate all submissions, but we look forward to adding some of your input to this site. (I also know the site’s team could also use your help identifying names of those depicted here, or correcting incomplete or incorrect information.)
MAHALO NUI to all who have so graciously shared your time and talent at the Polynesian Cultural Center. The majority of these are our beloved BYU–Hawaii students. Indeed, they ARE the main reason our founders and kūpuna (elders and ancestors) launched this exciting “journey” through Polynesia.
I also want to thank the “Lord’s army” of early labor missionaries and subsequent senior missionaries who have unselfishly shared so much time and energy here. You are part of the Center’s story, too, on Legacy.
Our warmest aloha,
P. Alfred Grace
President & Chief Executive Officer
